Peter the Great

The Attitude Foundation awarded £10,000 to the Peter Tatchell Foundation to support its ongoing work promoting and protecting human rights in the UK and around the world. The unrestricted funding helped strengthen the Foundation's advocacy, education and campaigning work across a wide range of issues, including LGBTQ+ equality, freedom of expression and protection from discrimination.

Few figures have left a bigger mark on the LGBTQ+ rights movement than Peter Tatchell. For more than five decades, he has campaigned against injustice, challenged discriminatory laws and spoken out on behalf of marginalised communities. From helping organise the UK's first Pride march in 1972 to campaigning against anti-LGBTQ+ violence and discrimination both at home and abroad, Peter has become one of the most recognised and influential human rights activists of his generation.
Since its launch in 2011, the Peter Tatchell Foundation has built on that legacy. Independent and non-party political, the Foundation works to advance human rights through research, education, advice, casework, publicity and advocacy. Its work spans issues including homophobia, biphobia and transphobia, gender inequality, censorship, unjust detention, refugee rights, the death penalty and other human rights abuses.

The Foundation has supported campaigns for marriage equality, justice for those convicted under historic anti-gay laws, LGBTQ+-inclusive relationships and sex education, and assistance for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers fleeing persecution. Through its education programme, it also helps schools, universities, businesses and community groups better understand human rights, equality and diversity.
At the heart of the Foundation's work is a simple but powerful belief: that every person deserves dignity, freedom and equal rights, regardless of who they are or where they live. While progress has been made, LGBTQ+ people and many other communities around the world continue to experience discrimination, violence and exclusion. The Foundation remains a tireless voice challenging those injustices and standing alongside those whose rights are under threat.
By supporting the general work of the Peter Tatchell Foundation, the Attitude Foundation helped invest in one of Britain's longest-standing human rights campaigners and the organisation that continues his mission today, ensuring vital advocacy, education and support can continue reaching those who need it most.
